What Can Permanently Stop Snoring?

December 23rd, 2013

pssWhen it comes to snoring, the problem is not just that weird sound that comes out of someone’s mouth, but it can be a serious breathing problem. There are many, more and less complicated anti-snoring products, and the Vitalsleep is one of the best ones, mostly because it is not expensive, it is easy to wear, and it can really take care of snoring if that is not a symptom of another disease. However, it is recommended to learn about other medicines that are not dangerous, but still can be helpful.

Anti-snoring sprays, such as Snore Zip Spray and King Bio Snore Control are created to reduce snoring by clearing nasal passage during sleep. On the other hand, they can also take care of allergies that cause the snoring sound in many people. Another option may be odd, but many snorers claim it really works. The anti-snoring ring usually fits on small finger, and it works through acupressure method, which means pressing some energy lines can really change many health issues. There are even anti-snoring chewable tablets that can decrease snoring symptoms, as well as throat strips that are supposed to help the person breathe normally. Nonetheless, the vitalsleep may be the safest solution, especially for those people who expect immediate results with little money. Miracle Ingredients In Anti Wrinkle Creams

July 5th, 2013

awcsThere have been several anti wrinkle creams on display touted as being able to do away with wrinkles caused by aging as well as smoothening skin. Lately, there have been claims by many scientists that the creams popularly used are not effective in the complete removal of wrinkles, forcing wrinkled individuals to use several creams which have effects on their skin. They have come up with a cream which has chemicals that doubles the amount of collagen produced by the skin. Collagen is a naturally produced protein which is known to improve the elasticity of skin.

This chemical is Peptide Matrixyl, it is found in many anti wrinkle creams and studies show that the right amount of the substance contributes to the double production of collagen. Scientific studies show that the concentration of the substance has been found to be high enough in anti- wrinkle creams. The results of the research have been published to make consumers aware of what is used in making products that they use. The Peptide Matrixyl has been found to benefit users since the products that contain these substances can be used to treat wounds as well as enhance stem cell research. Miracle substances are usually known to create frenzy, as many users are eager to try out the latest product that they believe will bring a difference to their lives.

Things To Take Into Consideration When Choosing Anti Wrinkle Creams

Wrinkles are signs of skin aging and it is inevitable especially as you get older. However, there are ways to get rid of wrinkles and one of which is by using anti wrinkle creams. Snoring: How To Avoid It

April 19th, 2013

shtaiThere are several circumstances that can predispose snoring. These include weakness of the muscles within the throat, excess tissues within the throat and obstruction in the nasal passageway. The muscles within your throat can become weak as your age progresses. But these can also be weakened by unhealthy lifestyle. If you want to avoid snoring, you have to make certain that your respiratory structures are in good condition. You can do this by keeping a balanced diet and exercising regularly. It is highly advised to include fruits and vegetables in your diet. Fruits that are rich in antioxidants can help prevent conditions that can harm your respiratory structures. These can also defend your body from illness that can cause obstruction in your nasal passageway. Exercise is advised because this can tone your muscles. This is also helpful in preventing fat tissues from depositing within the throat. It is also advised to get enough rest because stress can also be a predisposing factor. A regular visit to the doctor is also recommended so your health can be closely monitored. If you are already snoring, you should come to the doctor right away. This is because snoring may indicate an existing health problem. Snoring can be treated using stop snoring mouthpieces and surgery.

A person who snores should not take his or her condition for granted. Snoring is not an uncommon condition. However, it does not mean that it should be ignored. A serious health condition called obstructive sleep apnea can cause snoring. Thus, it is extremely important to visit the doctor if you are snoring. There are a number of circumstances that can predispose snoring. Hence, you should not conclude that you have obstructive sleep apnea just because you are snoring. The doctor will evaluate your health condition through interview and a series of examinations. It is crucial to give the correct accounts regarding your health history because these can be helpful for the diagnostics. You should be distressed because snoring can be treated using stop snoring mouthpieces and various surgical procedures. But the doctor has to identify the root of the problem first before he can propose the appropriate solution. It is also very important to follow the instructions of the doctor carefully. The treatment for snoring can be effective with your full cooperation. If you want to get rid of snoring, you will have to stick to a healthy lifestyle too. Cigarette smoking is discouraged because this can affect the strength of the muscles within the throat.

Some people think that snoring is just something that adults develop as they become older. This is correct because the muscles within the throat will slowly lose their strength as a person ages. But the process can become quite fast if the person is living an unhealthy lifestyle. Poor nutrition can weaken the muscles because these will not be provided by the essential vitamins and minerals. Cigarette smoking can also be a factor because it can irritate the muscles. The harmful substances that are present in cigarettes can also affect the person´s overall health. Lack of exercise and being overweight can also predispose snoring because fat tissues may deposit within the throat and decrease the size of the air passageway. Including fruits and vegetables in your diet, exercising regularly and avoiding unhealthy habits can help you stay away from snoring. It is also recommended to have a regular consultation with the doctor. This is to monitor your overall health. If you are already snoring, you have to turn to the doctor right away so you can acquire treatment early. Snoring can be treated using over-the-counter devices such as stop snoring mouthpieces or surgery. Some natural remedies may also help. You also may want to check out a site with some snoring mouthpiece reviews in order to determine what anti snoring devices will work for you.

What You Must Know About Snoring

A person who snores for some time now must turn to the doctor right away. It is crucial to be oriented that snoring can be symptom of a serious health problem. This condition should not be ignored because snoring can also affect other aspects of your life. A person who has been snoring for some time now may have noticed changes in your mood and relationship with other people. Snoring can be disturbing and can cause sleep deprivation. The person to whom he or she is sharing the bedroom with may complain about the noise. One of them may feel required to move to another room. This is to avoid disturbing other people during sleeping time. The snorer may feel bad about it because he or she has a condition that makes him or her isolated. It is suggested to refer to a doctor as soon as possible. So the snorer can acquire the most suitable type of treatment for him or her. If he or she gets treated early, negative sentiments can be prevented. Stop snoring mouthpieces and surgery can be used to treat snoring. Snoring can also signal an existing health problem like obstructive sleep apnea. It is endorsed to consult the doctor so the main problem can be addressed.

How Good Are Your Self Portraits?

March 27th, 2013

selfportraitSelf-portraits require a different set of disciplines than other types of photography. The most obvious difference is that when the shutter is tripped, you are not looking through the viewfinder. This means that you must preconceive the results without the benefit of examining a composition through the camera. For example, the relationship of your face or entire body against a background has to be carefully considered. How will the elements behind you look if they are in focus, or out of focus? In other words, how much depth of field do you want? Should the portrait be tight, or should the background play an important role?

What about your facial expression? Do you see yourself as serious, joyous, depressed, intense, childish, or judgmental? These feelings about yourself change over time, and a self-portrait taken even a few days later may evoke a different expression. But whatever your toolings are at the moment, you will have to preconceive the results, and this mental exercise is good practice for other photographic endeavors.

The Equipment Is Key

The only special equipment required for making a self-portrait is a camera with a self-timer and a tripod. To give yourself enough time, you should allow yourself at least 10 seconds to step into the frame and assume the pose you want. If you have a remote trigger and a motor drive, this will permit you to change expressions and body language without having to walk back to the camera and reset it between pictures.

A small, hand-held mirror is helpful in showing you what the camera will be seeing. You can also place a larger mirror by the tripod to help determine how you look in front of the background.

The automatic meter in your camera should provide an accurate exposure, as long as the background is a neutral tone. If you are standing in front of a bright window in your home, for example, the meter will be fooled by the contrast. Choose a background that doesn’t distract from you, but also one that can be easily interpreted by your meter.

The Pre-Focus

The tricky part of shooting a self-portrait is that you must pre-focus the lens on the spot where your face will be. If you are using a moderate telephoto lens – which is ideal for most portraits – the focusing must be precise. If you are three on four inches in front of or behind the point of focus, the picture will be ruined.

It’s helpful to have a friend pose in the composition and focus on his or her face. Note exactly where the critical focusing point is and position yourself there for the exposure. If you want to shoot self-portraits privately, use an inanimate object to pre-focus on. When I took the self-portrait you see here, I focused on the front of the tree trunk and then stood in a spot where my nose was next to the point of focus.

Increased depth of field will help you in maintaining critical focus on your face. A small aperture will ensure that your eyes will be sharp even if they aren’t precisely in the right position. Faster films, therefore, are a good choice. My portrait was taken on Kodak Tri-X film rated at ISO 400. If you use a wide-angle lens for a more unorthodox portrait, pre-focusing is simplified because these lenses have extensive depth-of-field ranges. Three or four inches either way will probably not make any difference.

The Time Spent

We all change over the course of time. Our appearances change, of course, but so do our perceptions of ourselves. It could be an interesting project to take self-portraits over a lifetime to document not only our physical changes, but also to observe how we choose to portray ourselves on film. Perhaps every five years, or even once a year, take the time to photograph yourself. It will be a fascinating examination of your inner self and a wonderful legacy to leave with your family.

Birds Can Take Your Photography To A New Level

February 22nd, 2013

If photographing birds while traveling, hang a collapsible water container over the buried saucer to create a water source. You can buy such containers where hiking supplies are sold. Attach plastic tubing to the container’s spigot, and extend the tubing to an area above the buried saucer. A two-gallon container holds enough water to drip for an entire day.

Taste the freedom!

Taste the freedom!

Either natural or artificial light can be used in bird photography. Don’t forget to consider lighting when choosing the location of the water set-up. If using sunlight, position your water station to take advantage of the pleasing light of morning and late afternoon. Avoid the harsh light of midday. If you plan on using a flash, choose a site that is in the shade.

Modern cameras simplify many aspects of bird photography, especially exposure. With my Nikon 8008s, I use two flashes in TTL mode. The main flash is positioned in front of the subject and slightly to the side of the lens axis. The second flash is positioned behind and to the side of the subject, to soften the shadows created by the main flash. Allowing the camera to determine the exposure will be successful most of the time. Some compensation may be necessary if your subject is extremely light or dark.

Zoom lenses are convenient when dealing with birds of varying sizes. I often use a 75-300mm lens with a macro feature that allows me to focus as close as five feet. With a fixed focal length lens, you may need to change camera position to get tightly framed images of birds that are significantly different in size. With a zoom lens, just frame, focus, and fire.

If your lens has reliable autofocus, all you need to do is frame and fire. The camera will take care of the rest. You may also choose to use a tripod. Mounting your camera on a tripod keeps it ready for action while you wait for birds to arrive.

The use of small apertures – such as f/16 and f/22 – gives greater depth of field, but requires a stronger flash which causes a long recycling time. External battery sources can significantly reduce the recycling time, allowing you to take more images. This is especially useful for photographing during periods of activity, such as bathing.

Unless the birds attracted to your water set-up are extremely tolerant, you will need to conceal your presence. Bird blinds can be homemade structures, inexpensive tents, or commercial blinds made for photographers. Choose a blind that camouflages you and your equipment but allows ample viewing of outside wildlife. This facilitates the opportunity to enjoy the overall birding experience.

The Big Picture You can learn much about bird behavior by observing birds interacting with each other. One of the most interesting behaviors to watch is the playing out of the dominance hierarchy within and between species. On a recent trip to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California, three species regularly visited my water set-up, and several others appeared less frequently. A flock of White-crowned Sparrows was often present, and the birds seemed to attack each other continually at the feeder. When a California Towhee arrived, it spent half its time chasing the White-crowned Sparrows from the feeder. However, the California Thrasher was the most dominant of the regular visitors. When the thrashers arrived, the other birds did not attempt to feed but would often go to the water to drink and bathe. On several occasions, all the birds quickly left the area while emitting alarm calls. Soon afterward, a Greater Roadrunner would come into view.

Interesting behavior can be observed and photographed when birds bathe. Getting a good photograph of a bathing bird, however, is not as easy as it may seem. Although bathing birds often remain in a small area for extended periods of time, their movements are so quick that you may not know what you are capturing on film. Head dunking is common during bathing; in a photograph, however, this behavior may appear as if the bird has crashed into a body of water. Quick wing flicks during bathing send out sprays of water which can make striking photographic images. Short flash durations will freeze wings and drops of water, making them appear suspended in midair. Also rewarding – and amusing – are images taken when bathing is finished and the bird is soaking wet.

Bathing by one bird can stimulate other birds in the area to do the same. You will observe this behavior with several species including Northern Mockingbird, Bridled Titmouse, and White-crowned Sparrow. After one bird begins bathing, other birds arrive and wait for their turn. With a zoom lens, you can get wide shots of both waiting and bathing birds.

One of the most challenging aspects of bird photography is getting close enough to get an acceptable image. Providing water for birds presents a simple, inexpensive method of attracting birds for photography or observation. And it might just inspire a romp through the sprinkler some hot summer day.

The Phoenix RL-59 Ringlight – Beautiful Work

February 11th, 2013

The RL-59 consists of two main pieces, connected by a coil cord. The control unit mounts in the camera’s hot-shoe, and looks much like any hot-shoe flash unit, except there’s a cord coming out of a black plate where the flash tube normally would be. There’s even a tilting “bounce” head and a red AF-illuminator window, although neither serves a function with the RL-59: They’re there because the control unit shares a body shell with another Phoenix flash unit. The ring flash head measures about 3.6×4.5 inches, and screws into the adapter ring on the front of the camera lens.

ringliteSpecs include an ISO 100 guide number of 59 (in feet), an auto distance range of 1-10 feet, a flash duration that runs from 1/1000 at 10 feet to 1/40,000 at one foot (great for freezing skittish insects), a color temperature of 5600 K (daylight), and a recycle time of 0.5-6 seconds. The unit operates on four easy-to-find AA alkaline batteries, and provides 120-2000 flashes per set, depending on shooting distance. The wide (and symmetrical) 80 [degrees] angle of coverage illuminates the entire area seen by a 28mm lens (on a 35mm camera), and covers all but the very corners in a 24mm lens shot.

Using The Thing

The RL-59 is very simple to use. To set up, just slip the control unit into the camera’s hot-shoe, screw the adapter ring into the front threads of the lens, then screw the ringlight into the adapter ring. Switch the unit on, and it works just like the camera maker’s automatic TTL flash units. Use the camera in program AE mode, and everything’s fully automatic. If you wish to shoot at a specific aperture for depth-of-field considerations, set that aperture in aperture-priority AE mode, and the TTL flash system will automatically adjust the flash duration for proper exposure. There’s a handy sliding scale on the back of the control unit that shows you the maximum shooting distance you can use at each aperture, with film speeds from ISO 25 to 1000. (Like the AF illuminator and bounce head, the scale is a holdover from the flash unit whose body shell the RL-59 shares, so it’s not exact, but gives you a good idea of shooting distances you can use.) The ISO settings on the scale are for the scale only; the flash automatically receives film speed information from the camera for TTL exposure control.

We tested the RL-59 with a Minolta Maxxum 9 AF 35mm SLR with a Minolta AF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens, and found it simple to use and effective. In program mode, it was point-and-shoot simple – just stay within 1-10 feet of the subject, and it’s automatically properly exposed. In aperture-priority AE, we were able to stop the lens down for increased depth of field, and again, exposure was automatic and precise. The green auto check lamp to the left of the on/off switch glows after each shot to confirm that exposure was correct (i.e., that the subject was within range for the f-stop being used). The amber ready light to the right of the on;/off switch can on almost instantaneously after each exposure – the unit is very efficient at conserving energy when used at close-up shooting distances.

One nice thing about a TTL ringlight is that the lens can’t get in its way. With built-in and on-camera flash units, a long or large-diameter lens can block some of the light from the flash. But when the flash unit mounts on the end of the lens, the lens can’t get in the way.

A Milk Based Shoot?

January 19th, 2013

photomilkBecause the refrigerator wasn’t working, I did a little creative electrical wiring to get the interior light bulb to function. This bulb was directly wired to a plug so that it could be connected to an electrical outlet. I wanted this bulb to work so the interior of the fridge would appear to be lit solely by this source. But because it was a dim light source and I needed to freeze the motion of the model, I opted for using flash in addition to the tungsten bulb. Due to the limited space available to place a strobe head inside the refrigerator, I settled on a Nikon SB-24. This is a small “on-camera” unit which is normally used with a 35mm camera. This flash has an sync post which allows a sync cord to be connected to the flash so it can be discharged by any camera or remote. The strobe was duct-taped to the top, in back of the fridge, about six inches away from the rear wall. This would cause the light to bounce off the white walls of the fridge, illuminating its contents and the model.

Next, to create the feeling of evening outside the refrigerator door, I positioned a single Broncolor strobe head with a nine-inch reflector and a blue gel to bounce off the cove wall directly behind the model. Again, this “bounced” light source creates soft light that would emulate moonlight through a window. The strobe pack was set up to trigger at the same time as the small interior flash.

To set the exposure on the model, I used a hand-held incident meter. The first reading was taken of the tungsten light without flash – this reading was f/5.6 at 1/15. Next, a reading was taken of the small interior strobe with the meter’s dome aimed at the camera. The meter was held where the model’s head would be, and gave a reading of f/11 at 1/15. By using this camera setting, the tungsten light bulb would be two stops underexposed, which would make the bulb appear to be lit, yet not creating a problem with motion if the model moved during the exposure.

The blue light outside of the refrigerator had to be metered as well. A reflective spot meter was used in this situation for two reasons. First, the spot meter allowed a reading to be taken from the camera position of the precise area that would be seen in the image. Secondly, by using a reflective meter, I could get a reading of this light at a value of 18%. (Keep in mind that an incident meter will give you an reading to properly expose your subject while a reflective meter will give you a reading of 18% gray.) My reflective reading was f/8 at 1/15. Because my incident reading for the model was f/11 at 1/15, that was the exposure at which the camera was set. With the camera set at f/11 at 1/15, the reflective reading of the blue light of f/8 at 1/15 would create an underexposure of one stop, rendering a value of one stop under 18% to a value of 9%. based on experience, I felt this value for the background would be appropriate.

The image was shot on a Hasselblad 500CM with a 40mm lens. This lens helped to give the image a playful feeling and was just wide enough to capture the ceiling and side walls of the fridge. Props, wardrobe, and the model were chosen to add to the quirkiness of the image. A test image was shot on Polaroid 669 film to check the exposure and composition of the image once everything was set up. Like the Kodak EPP 100 film I planned to use, the Polaroid film is balanced for daylight (5500 [degrees] Kelvin). Keeping this in mind, I knew that the flash (also 5500 [degrees] K) would expose the interior of the fridge in true color, the flash with the blue gel would record as deep blue (remember that it was one stop underexposed), and the tungsten light bulb (3200 [degrees] K) would be rendered orange. This interior light bulb combined with the flash would not create a major shift in color.

I shot 10 rolls of film using various props in the fridge and a variety of expressions on the model. This frame was my favorite. During the shoot, we took a small break and I unplugged both the sync cord to the flash and the interior bulb of the fridge. When it was time to resume the shoot, I mistakenly plugged the sync to the flash into the 110-volt outlet. My SB-24 made one final and heroic “pop.” I guess it was time for both the fridge and the flash to make that trip to the big dump in the sky.
